Easter is upon us and it’s time to get crafty!

My partner gets super frustrated that I won’t allow plastic containers or other packaging be thrown away. I always maintain that they will come in handy at some point. My Nan used to have a ‘useful draw’ full of plastic containers, meat trays, cereal boxes etc and now I am proud to have one of my own.

One such occasion when the useful draw gets a workout is at Easter when I’m looking to make Easter baskets. It is really so simple to make DIY Easter baskets using recycled materials from various packaging in the home. Basically any type of container can be turned into a basket by adding a handle.

Get some inspiration from these nifty ideas.

DIY Easter Baskets from cereal boxes

We go through so many cereal boxes! I’ve started using the cardboard for the kids to paint on and to make birthday cards. I love this idea for DIY Easter baskets too. See instructions at The Craft Train.

DIY Easter baskets from yoghurt tubs

If you’re trying to limit chocolate intake, it can be a good idea to only provide small baskets and mini eggs. This DIY Easter basket is super simple but looks great thanks to the washi tape and bead details. See instruction at The Craft Train.

DIY Easter baskets from plastic bottles

Create a DIY Easter basket from a plastic bottle like Frog, Moose and Bear.

As I said, any container can be made into a basket by adding a handle. Try making this mosaic flower pot from Forests For Their Future out of a plastic bottle and add a handle to create a basket.

DIY Easter baskets from magazines

These gorgeous easter baskets can be easily made using magazines. Food magazines can offer some nice bright colours when they include photo of fruits and vegetables or pages with advertisements for Easter products work well too. Get the template from Merriment Design.

Do you remember making chatterboxes or fortune tellers at school? They can be flipped upside down and a handle added to make a cute DIY Easter basket too. Using a magazine cover makes this a sturdy basket to use for an egg hunt. Remind yourself how to make a chatterbox with this 65 second video.

DIY Easter baskets from kids artwork

What to do with all those beautiful paintings your children have done? In my house they are usually used as wrapping paper or the favourites wallpaper my daughter’s room but you could also use them to create a lovely colourful DIY Easter basket using a simple printable from Kitchen Table Classroom.

DIY Easter baskets from paper rolls

Paper rolls are useful for so many different crafts! These are another nice small DIY basket idea from The Craft Train.

  1. Great list! I love to reuse when I can and making my kids’ Easter baskets wasn’t something I had thought about! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  2. Your post has inspired me. I have so many bags and miscellaneous stuff that can be used for Easter. I love green living and have been making the switch so this is perfect.
