Find the perfect mother’s day gift to suit your eco-conscious mum

Yes Mother’s Day is not far off and it’s time to start thinking about what to give our cherished mothers to show how much we love them. Since becoming a parent myself, I am feeling extra appreciative of what my own mum had to put up with!

But there is no need to buy useless, gimmicky, plastic covered gifts. Consider Mother Nature as well as your own mum to choose something thoughtful and eco friendly. Whatever your mum is into, you’ll be sure to find something she’ll love in this list.

Or check out this list of consumable gift ideas if you’re after something clutter free.

1. Cards

Don’t forget the card! A card with a beautiful message in it will be treasured more than any gift. And for some mothers that may be all that they want.

Biome have some beautiful cards made from recycled paper and vegetable inks.

Or if you’re feeling crafty or would like to do an activity with the kids, you could make one of these clever DIY mother’s day cards

2. Audio books

I am in love with audio books at the moment. They are perfect for a busy mum who doesn’t have time to sit down and read a book. Instead they can be listened to while driving or cleaning the house. I actually look forward to doing mundane tasks when I have a good audio book to listen to.

They also have the added benefit of not taking up much space or perhaps none if you buy it digitally.

Choose something to suit your mum’s interests. The Girl on the Train is a gripping thriller or a mindfullness book may be more to your mum’s tastes.

Of course you can buy beeswax wraps but making them yourself provides a fun activity and a sense of accomplishment. The kit comes with beeswax, jojoba oil and tree resin and can make up to 8 wraps depending on size.

7. Picnic wine glass holder

There is nothing better than a glass of wine at a picnic or outdoor concert. But there is nothing worse than spilled wine because there was no flat surface to place a wine glass.

Enter the wine glass picnic stake. It is light, compact and most importantly, keeps the wine safe from spillage. The wine glass picnic stake is also a highly sustainable product. They are upcycled from retired wine barrels, made in Australia and have a partnership with Trees.org where a tree is planted for every design sold.

10. Finska wooden tossing game

Something for a game loving mum. Finska is a Finnish game that has become popular in Australia over the last 10 years. It is a game for all ages that is played outside on lawn or the beach. You have to throw one log at the other logs strategically to get the right score.

Finska uses cunning, strategy and skill but the scoring is also good for teaching kids maths. As long as mum will like it too, it is always nice to give a gift that everyone in the family can enjoy.

12. Flowers

I know it is a cliche but most women love to receive flowers. And it doesn’t even need to be bought flowers. Again it is the thought that is the most meaningful so some flowers picked from the garden or a neighbour’s garden will suffice. Kids will enjoy picking and arranging the flowers too. To add something extra you could buy a nice vase to put them in.

If you don’t live in the same city as your mum and can’t personally hand her flowers on Mother’s Day, online delivery is a really convenient alternative. Interflora have many gorgeous floral arrangements to choose from.
